# sincecutoff.com /t/tkn — Tekton CLI

- name: Tekton CLI
- kind: cli
- children: none
- homepage: <https://github.com/tektoncd/cli>

Changes to the tools coding agents drive, since a model's training cutoff, each linked to its first-party source. Check installed versions and limitations before acting; a cutoff date does not establish what a model knows.

To stay current, read the changes feed: [`/v1/changes.md?tool=tkn`](https://sincecutoff.com/v1/changes.md?tool=tkn) (or `.json`), adding `since=YYYY-MM-DD` for your training cutoff. ### tkn hub defaults to Artifact Hub (2026-08-05)
- slug: tkn-hub-defaults-to-artifact-hub-962e770acd85
- score: 0.93

How to use it:

When installing a Task from Artifact Hub, run `tkn hub install task` with its name, catalog, and version; Artifact Hub is the default hub type. Use `--type=tekton` only for Tekton Hub resources; that type is deprecated and emits a warning.

Examples:

```
tkn hub install task <task-name> --type artifact --from <catalog> --version <version>
```

```
tkn hub install task <task-name> --version <version> --from <catalog> --type tekton
```

- why_it_matters: Install a task from Artifact Hub into a Tekton pipeline workflow.
- before: The `--type` default was `tekton`; users relying on Tekton Hub resources could omit the flag for those commands.

- gotchas: "Version: v0.46.0"; "task-name (required): Name of the Task to install."; "--from (required): Catalog to which the resource belongs."; "--version: Version of the resource; the documented Artifact Hub example specifies it, and Artifact Hub resources follow full SemVer."; "--type: Hub type: `artifact` or `tekton`; defaults to `artifact`. `tekton` is deprecated and displays a warning."; "--api-server: Hub API server URL; defaults to `https://artifacthub.io` for Artifact Hub and `https://api.hub.tekton.dev` for deprecated Tekton Hub. Can be set by `ARTIFACT_HUB_API_SERVER`, `TEKTON_HUB_API_SERVER`, or `$HOME/.tekton/hub-config`."; "--context: Kubeconfig context; defaults to the current kubectl context."; "--kubeconfig: Kubectl config file; defaults to `$HOME/.kube/config`."; "--namespace: Namespace to use; defaults from `KUBECONFIG`."; "The following commands currently only work with Tekton Hub and may support Artifact Hub in a future release: check-upgrade, downgrade, get, info, reinstall, search, upgrade."; "When using `--type tekton`, a deprecation warning is displayed."; "Tekton Hub type is deprecated and will be removed in a future release."

### tkn pipelinerun logs adds --log-failed (2026-08-05)
- slug: tkn-pipelinerun-logs-adds-log-failed-68f79b93e2b4
- score: 0.94

How to use it:

When diagnosing a failed PipelineRun, run `tkn pipelinerun logs` with its name and `--log-failed` to show logs for failed tasks only.

Examples:

```
tkn pipelinerun logs <pipelinerun-name> --log-failed -n <namespace>
```

- why_it_matters: Inspect a PipelineRun's logs while diagnosing failed tasks.
- sources: <https://github.com/tektoncd/cli/releases/tag/v0.46.0>, <https://github.com/tektoncd/cli/blob/v0.46.0/docs/cmd/tkn_pipelinerun_logs.md>
- gotchas: "Version: v0.46.0"; "<pipelinerun-name> (required): Name of the PipelineRun whose logs to show."; "--log-failed: Show logs for failed tasks only."; "-n, --namespace <namespace>: Select the namespace; defaults to the namespace from KUBECONFIG."

### tkn customrun describe describes a CustomRun (2026-05-12)
- slug: tkn-customrun-describe-describes-a-customrun-ae767c215e36
- score: 0.96

How to use it:

When debugging a Tekton pipeline run, describe the target CustomRun with `tkn customrun describe <name> -n <namespace>`; use `--fzf` to select one, `--last` for the last CustomRun, or `--limit <count>` to set the number listed during selection.

Examples:

```
tkn customrun describe <name> -n <namespace>
```

```
tkn customrun describe --fzf --limit <count>
```

```
tkn customrun describe --last
```

- why_it_matters: Inspect a CustomRun while debugging a Tekton pipeline run.

- gotchas: "Version: v0.45.0"; "<name> (required): Name of the CustomRun to describe."; "-n, --namespace <namespace>: Namespace to use; default is from KUBECONFIG."; "-F, --fzf: Use fzf to select a CustomRun to describe."; "-L, --last: Show description for the last CustomRun."; "--limit <int>: Number of CustomRuns listed when selecting; default 5."; "-o, --output <string>: Output format: json, yaml, name, go-template, go-template-file, template, templatefile, jsonpath, jsonpath-as-json, or jsonpath-file."; "--template <string>: Template string or file path when output is go-template or go-template-file."; "--show-managed-fields: Keep managedFields when printing JSON or YAML."; "--allow-missing-template-keys: Ignore template errors for missing fields or map keys; applies only to golang and jsonpath output formats; default true."; "-c, --context <string>: Name of kubeconfig context; defaults to kubectl current-context."; "-k, --kubeconfig <string>: kubectl config file; default is $HOME/.kube/config."; "-C, --no-color: Disable coloring; default false."; "The command describes a CustomRun in a namespace."; "`--limit` applies when selecting a CustomRun to describe and defaults to 5."; "`--output` supports the formats listed in the source."
