azd env new and azd init add no-prompt defaults
Introduced 2026-03-07 · score 0.92
HOW TO USE IT
When setting up a repository, run `azd env new` or `azd init` with `--no-prompt`; azd generates the environment name from the working directory and, when exactly one subscription is available, selects it automatically. The release note says `--environment` is not required for this behavior.
azd env new --no-promptazd init --no-promptWHY THIS HELPS
Create or initialize an azd environment in `--no-prompt` mode when setting up a repository.
REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS
- Version: 1.23.8
- --no-prompt: Suppress prompts; the release note describes automatic environment naming and single-subscription selection in this mode.
- --environment: The release note says the hard requirement for this option is removed.
- Automatic subscription selection is specified only when one subscription is available.
- Docs conflict: Current Microsoft Learn reference documents `azd env new <environment>` with a required positional environment argument and describes `--no-prompt` as using existing values; this is newer-version documentation and differs from the 1.23.8 release note. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/developer/azure-developer-cli/reference
