bk auth login adds device authorization

Introduced 2026-06-04 · score 0.96

HOW TO USE IT

When logging in from a headless or remote machine where authorization happens in a separate browser, run `bk auth login --device`.

bk auth login --device

WHY THIS HELPS

Log in to Buildkite from a headless or remote development machine where authorization happens in a separate browser.

BEFORE THIS CHANGE

Run `bk auth login` using a browser on the same machine and a reachable localhost callback.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: v3.45.0
  • --device (required): Authenticate using OAuth device authorization instead of opening a browser callback.
  • The device flow applies to headless or remote machines where authorization can happen in another browser without relying on a loopback browser OAuth callback.
  • Existing browser login and `--token` login behavior is preserved.
