chrome-devtools-mcp URL pattern network restrictions

Introduced 2026-06-08 · score 0.96

HOW TO USE IT

When investigating or testing browser behavior, configure the MCP server with a URL pattern list to restrict network access. Use either `--blocked-url-pattern` to block matches or `--allowed-url-pattern` to allow matches; targets with disallowed URLs are detached, and violating runtime requests are blocked.

npx -y chrome-devtools-mcp@1.2.0 --allowed-url-pattern="<URL-pattern>"
{"blockedUrlPattern":["<URL-pattern>"]}

WHY THIS HELPS

Restrict a Chrome debugging session's network access while investigating or testing a repository's browser behavior.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: 1.2.0
  • Availability: `--allowed-url-pattern` requires Chrome 149+; `--blocked-url-pattern` works on Chrome versions older than 149, but Chrome 149+ is highly recommended.
  • --blocked-url-pattern / --blockedUrlPattern: Array of URLPattern Standard patterns to block. Silently detaches from targets matching blocked URLs upon connection and blocks violating runtime requests, including navigations and subresources. Cannot be configured with the allowlist option.
  • --allowed-url-pattern / --allowedUrlPattern: Array of URLPattern Standard patterns to allow; other target URLs are silently detached upon connection and violating runtime requests, including navigations and subresources, are blocked. Cannot be configured with the blocklist option.
  • blockedUrlPattern: JSON configuration key for an array of URL patterns to block; mutually exclusive with allowedUrlPattern.
  • Prerequisite: `--allowed-url-pattern` requires Chrome 149+. The release note says Chrome 149+ is highly recommended for `--blocked-url-pattern`.
  • Prerequisite: Network throttling is disabled when a network blocklist or allowlist is configured.
  • The two options conflict and cannot be configured simultaneously.
  • Both options accept an array of URL patterns and use the URLPattern Standard.
  • Network throttling is disabled when a network blocklist or allowlist is configured.
