HOW TO USE IT

When creating an HTTP or App Engine task with alpha or beta gcloud, pass the task-level retry flags to set that task’s retry behavior. For HTTP tasks, the documented flags are --max-attempts, --max-backoff, --max-doublings, --max-retry-duration, and --min-backoff; the App Engine reference does not document these flags.

Override queue-level retry settings for an individual HTTP or App Engine task.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

• Availability: alpha, beta
• --queue=<QUEUE> (required): Queue the task belongs to.
• --url=<HTTP_URL> (required): Full target URL; must begin with http:// or https://.
• --max-attempts=<N>: Maximum attempts; 1 means no retries and -1 means unlimited.
• --max-retry-duration=<DURATION>: Maximum time window for retrying a failed task; example 3600s.
• --min-backoff=<DURATION>: Minimum wait before retrying; example 10s.
• --max-backoff=<DURATION>: Maximum wait before retrying; example 300s.
• --max-doublings=<N>: Maximum number of times the backoff period will double.
• --queue=<QUEUE> (required): Queue the App Engine task belongs to.
• --url=<RELATIVE_URL>: Relative request URL; must begin with /; defaults to /.
• <TASK_ID>: Optional task ID; omitted IDs are generated automatically.
• The flags override the queue-level retry configuration for an individual task.
• Docs conflict: The official App Engine task reference last updated 2026-05-27 does not list any of the five task-level retry flags, despite the release note saying they were added on 2026-09-29. No conflicting behavior is asserted; App Engine usage and flag descriptions are therefore not documented in the sources found.
