eas build:dev and eas build:run accept --simulator

Introduced 2026-05-05 · score 0.98

HOW TO USE IT

When targeting a specific iOS simulator, pass its name or UDID with `--simulator` to `eas build:dev` or `eas build:run`. `build:run` also needs a build selector, such as `--latest`.

eas build:dev --platform ios --simulator "<simulator name or UDID>"
eas build:run --platform ios --latest --simulator "<simulator name or UDID>"

WHY THIS HELPS

When selecting an iOS simulator for a development build, choose the target simulator for installation and execution.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: v18.11.0
  • --simulator <value>: iOS simulator name or UDID to install and run the build on; if omitted, the CLI prompts for a simulator.
  • --platform <ios|android>: Selects the platform; use `ios` for this task.
  • eas build:run build selector (`--latest`, `--id`, `--path`, or `--url`) (required): Selects the simulator/emulator build to run. The documented syntax presents these as alternatives.
  • eas build:dev --profile: Selects a build profile; it must allow emulator/simulator internal-distribution development builds. Defaults to `development-simulator`.
  • Prerequisite: For `build:dev`, use a build profile that allows emulator/simulator internal-distribution development builds; `development-simulator` is the default.
