eas simulator supports --device selection

Introduced 2026-08-20 · score 0.94

HOW TO USE IT

When starting a simulator session, pass `--device` to choose its virtual device; omit it to use the runner-chosen device.

eas simulator:start --device "<iOS simulator name or UDID>"
eas simulator:start --platform android --device "<AVD hardware profile id>"

WHY THIS HELPS

When starting a simulator for a repository's development or testing workflow, select the virtual device to start.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: v22.2.0
  • --device <value>: Virtual device for the session: iOS Simulator device name or UDID; Android AVD hardware profile ID. Defaults to a device chosen by the runner.
  • Docs conflict: Current official EAS simulator guidance says `--device` requires eas-cli ≥22.4.0, later than card version v22.2.0; it does not establish availability at v22.2.0. https://github.com/expo/skills/blob/main/plugins/expo/skills/eas-simulator/references/run-your-app.md
