gcloud alloydb instances create and update support instance labels

Introduced 2026-06-02 · score 0.96

HOW TO USE IT

When creating or maintaining an AlloyDB instance, use `--labels` on create or create-secondary to assign labels; use the update command’s label flags to change, remove, or clear them.

gcloud alloydb instances create <instance> --cluster=<cluster> --region=<region> --instance-type=<instance-type> --labels=<key>=<value>
gcloud alloydb instances create-secondary <instance> --cluster=<cluster> --region=<region> --labels=<key>=<value>
gcloud alloydb instances update <instance> --update-labels=<key>=<value> [--remove-labels=<key>,… | --clear-labels]

WHY THIS HELPS

When creating, creating a secondary, or maintaining an AlloyDB instance, assign or change its labels.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • --labels: On create and create-secondary, list of label KEY=VALUE pairs to add. Keys and values must start with a lowercase character and contain only hyphens, underscores, lowercase characters, and numbers.
  • --update-labels: List of label KEY=VALUE pairs to update; changes existing values or creates new labels. Keys and values must start with a lowercase character and contain only hyphens, underscores, lowercase characters, and numbers.
  • --remove-labels: List of label keys to remove; missing labels are silently ignored. Mutually exclusive with `--clear-labels`; if combined with `--update-labels`, updates apply first.
  • --clear-labels: Remove all labels. Mutually exclusive with `--remove-labels`; if combined with `--update-labels`, clearing applies first.
