Introduced 2026-03-17 · score 0.91

HOW TO USE IT

When restoring a Filestore instance from a backup in another project, set `source-backup-project` in `--file-share` to that backup’s project ID.

gcloud filestore instances create <INSTANCE> --zone=<ZONE> --file-share=name=<SHARE_NAME>,capacity=<CAPACITY>,source-backup=<BACKUP_NAME>,source-backup-region=<BACKUP_REGION>,source-backup-project=<BACKUP_PROJECT> --network=name=<NETWORK>

WHY THIS HELPS

Create a Filestore instance using a source backup project when the backup is in another project.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • INSTANCE (required): Instance ID or fully qualified identifier.
  • --zone (required): Instance zone; location can also be set via documented alternatives such as `--region` or `--location`.
  • --file-share.name (required): Desired logical name of the volume.
  • --file-share.capacity (required): Desired volume capacity in GB or TB; GB is assumed if no unit is supplied.
  • --file-share.source-backup: Name of the backup to restore from.
  • --file-share.source-backup-region: Region of the source backup.
  • --file-share.source-backup-project: Project of the source backup; defaults to the instance project if omitted.
  • --network.name: VPC network name; `--network` is part of the command syntax, while the reference says its configuration options are optional.
