gcloud storage anywhere-caches configure ingest on write

Introduced 2026-05-27 · score 0.97

HOW TO USE IT

When creating or updating an Anywhere Cache, pass `--enable-ingest-on-write` to enable ingest-on-write. Then describe the cache to inspect its parsed properties.

gcloud storage buckets anywhere-caches create gs://<BUCKET_NAME> <CACHE_ZONE> --enable-ingest-on-write
gcloud storage buckets anywhere-caches update <BUCKET_NAME>/<CACHE_ZONE> --enable-ingest-on-write
gcloud storage buckets anywhere-caches describe <BUCKET_NAME>/<CACHE_ZONE>

WHY THIS HELPS

Enable cache ingest on write when creating or updating an anywhere cache and confirm the parsed property.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • URL (required): Bucket URL for cache creation; documented form is `gs://<BUCKET_NAME>`.
  • ZONE (required): Zonal location for the cache; multiple zones may be supplied.
  • ID (required): Cache identifier, combining bucket name and cache ID, e.g. `<BUCKET_NAME>/<CACHE_ZONE>`.
  • --enable-ingest-on-write: Enables the Ingest-on-Write feature. The corresponding `--no-enable-ingest-on-write` form disables it. The Rapid Cache guide says this flag enables ingest for all objects written to the bucket.
  • --raw: For describe, emits metadata in the API response format instead of the standardized format.
  • Prerequisite: Grant `roles/storage.admin` on the bucket, or equivalent permissions. Ingest-on-write additionally requires `storage.managedFolders.create` when creating a cache and `storage.managedFolders.update` when updating one.
