gh adds issue artifact management commands

Introduced 2026-10-28 · score 0.98

HOW TO USE IT

When an issue has artifacts to manage, use `gh issue artifact` subcommands to create, edit, list, view, download, or delete them; identify artifacts by GitHub URL and use `--attach` for image or video files in Markdown documents.

gh issue artifact create <issue-number-or-url> <markdown-file> --attach <image-or-video-file>
gh issue artifact list <issue-number-or-url> --json number, name, type
gh issue artifact download <artifact-url> --output -

WHY THIS HELPS

Manage artifacts associated with issues while maintaining a repository’s development workflow.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Availability: public preview
  • Non-interactive: `gh issue artifact delete` supports `--yes` to confirm deletion without prompting.
  • Non-interactive: `gh issue artifact download --output -` writes the artifact content to stdout.
  • Non-interactive: `gh issue artifact create --body-file -` reads artifact content from standard input.
  • --attach <file>: Attach an image or video; format `<file>#<image alt text>`.
  • --json <fields>: Output selected fields as JSON.
  • --output <file>: Write a single downloaded artifact to a file; `-` writes to stdout.
  • Prerequisite: Issue artifacts are in preview; the 2.103.2 release notes say the commands work only for repositories enrolled in the private preview.
  • Markdown documents support image and video attachments with `--attach`.
