gh pr edit and gh pr create can request Copilot code review

Introduced 2026-03-11 · score 0.98

HOW TO USE IT

When the account has access to Copilot code review and GitHub CLI v2.88.0 or later, add `@copilot` as a reviewer when editing or creating a pull request.

gh pr edit <number|url|branch> --add-reviewer "@copilot"
gh pr create --reviewer "@copilot"

WHY THIS HELPS

Request Copilot code review while editing an existing pull request or creating a new one.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: v2.88.0 or later
  • Availability: Available on all plans that include Copilot code review.
  • Requires Install or upgrade GitHub CLI to v2.88.0 or later.
  • --add-reviewer <login>: Adds or re-requests a reviewer; use `@copilot` to request Copilot review. The flag takes a login when supplied.
  • <number|url|branch>: Selects the pull request to edit; omitted target selection is supported by the command syntax.
  • --reviewer <handle>: Requests reviews from people or teams by handle; use `@copilot` for Copilot as stated in the release note.
  • Prerequisite: Use GitHub CLI v2.88.0 or later; Copilot code review must be available on the account's plan.
  • Prerequisite: If Copilot is provided by an organization, its Copilot code review policy must be enabled.
  • Interactive reviewer selection is available through the interactive prompts.
  • Docs conflict: The current `gh pr edit` manual says `@copilot` review requests are not supported on GitHub Enterprise Server; the release note does not state that limitation.
  • Docs conflict: The current `gh pr create` manual documents `--reviewer <handle>` generically but does not name `@copilot`; the Copilot reviewer option is documented in the supplied release note.
