glab adds a token self-rotate option

Introduced 2026-10-27 · score 0.95

HOW TO USE IT

When rotating the token currently used for authentication, run `glab token rotate --self` and capture the new token from stdout.

glab token rotate --self

WHY THIS HELPS

Rotate a token using the token's self-rotation capability.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: v1.125.0
  • Non-interactive: Default text output provides the new token value; `--output json` returns the token with metadata.
  • --self: Selects the access token currently used for authentication.
  • --output: Choose `text` for the new token value or `json` for token metadata; default is `text`.
  • Prerequisite: Requires GitLab 17.9 or later.
