hf buckets cp copies files into Buckets

Introduced 2026-04-09 · score 0.99

HOW TO USE IT

When copying repository or Bucket data into a Bucket, run `hf buckets cp` with the source and destination `hf://` paths. The documented examples use a trailing slash on folder paths to copy their contents.

hf buckets cp hf://buckets/<owner>/<source-bucket>/logs/ hf://buckets/<owner>/<destination-bucket>/logs/
hf buckets cp hf://datasets/<owner>/<dataset>/data/train/ hf://buckets/<owner>/<bucket>/datasets/train/

WHY THIS HELPS

Copy a repository or Bucket data into a Bucket without downloading and re-uploading it.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: v1.10.0
  • source (required): First path; for this task, a repository or Bucket path. A trailing `/` copies the folder contents without nesting the folder itself.
  • destination (required): Second path; for this task, the destination Bucket path.
  • Prerequisite: Have read access to the source repository or Bucket and write access to the destination Bucket.
  • Prerequisite: Remote-to-remote copies require the source and destination to be in the same storage region.
  • Copying from a Bucket to a Repository is not yet supported.
  • Xet-tracked files copy directly by hash; small text files not tracked with Xet are automatically downloaded and re-uploaded.
