hf CLI uses --format and mode-aware confirmations

Introduced 2026-04-16 · score 0.95

HOW TO USE IT

For migrated command groups, use `--format json` or `--format quiet` when scripts need machine-readable or minimal output; omit it for automatic mode selection. For confirmations, pass `--yes` in agent, JSON, or quiet mode; human mode prompts.

hf cache ls --format json
hf cache ls --format quiet
hf cache rm <repo_id> --yes

WHY THIS HELPS

Run hf CLI commands in scripts that need structured or minimal output and may delete repositories or cache entries.

BEFORE THIS CHANGE

Use the old `--quiet` flags on migrated commands; confirmation prompts were not described as mode-aware.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: v1.11.0
  • --format <value>: Select output format; documented values are auto, human, agent, json, and quiet. `auto` is the default.
  • --yes: Skip the confirmation prompt for `hf cache rm`. The v1.11.0 release note says agent, JSON, and quiet modes require it for confirmation prompts.
  • <repo_id> (required): One or more cache targets may be repository IDs, Hub URIs, or revision hashes.
  • Prerequisite: The `hf` CLI is shipped with `huggingface_hub`; official docs also provide standalone installation instructions.
  • `jobs`, `buckets`, and `auth login/logout` are scheduled to follow in a future release; the spans do not state that they have migrated.
  • Docs conflict: The v1.11.0 release note says `--yes` is required for confirmation prompts in agent, JSON, or quiet modes; the current CLI reference describes `--yes` as skipping the prompt but does not state that mode-specific requirement. Current docs may describe a later CLI version.
