hf jobs accepts unknown server-side hardware flavors

Introduced 2026-05-28 · score 0.93

HOW TO USE IT

When a Hub Job needs a server-side hardware flavor the CLI does not know, pass it with `--flavor` to `hf jobs run`.

hf jobs run --flavor future-gpu-x99 python:3.12 echo "works with unknown flavors"

WHY THIS HELPS

Run a Hub Job using a flavor that the current CLI does not know so it can request a newer server-side flavor.

BEFORE THIS CHANGE

CLI validation rejected flavor values it did not know.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: v1.17.0
  • --flavor <flavor>: Selects the Job hardware flavor; defaults to `cpu-basic` in CLI reference docs. The v1.17.0 release note says this flag accepts any string, including unknown flavors.
  • IMAGE (required): Docker image to use; here `python:3.12`.
  • COMMAND... (required): Command to run in the image; here `echo "works with unknown flavors"`.
  • Prerequisite: The machine must be logged in. Jobs require a positive credit balance.
  • `JobHardware` is now its own enum, independent of `SpaceHardware`.
  • The former `JobHardware` dataclass return type of `list_jobs_hardware()` is renamed `JobHardwareInfo`.
  • A daily CI workflow syncs both enums from the live Hub API and opens a bot PR when something changes.
  • Docs conflict: The CLI reference page lists `--flavor` as a fixed set of choices, while the v1.17.0 release note says the flag accepts any string. The release note describes the v1.17.0 behavior; the CLI reference page does not document that change.
