k6 HTTP API server requires an explicit address

Introduced 2026-05-11 · score 0.96

HOW TO USE IT

Starting with k6 v2.0.0, the REST API server is off by default. When a local workflow needs it, start k6 with `--address` set to the listener address.

k6 run --address=localhost:6565 <script.js>

WHY THIS HELPS

Update a local workflow that uses the k6 REST API server.

BEFORE THIS CHANGE

In earlier k6 versions the server started by default and listened on localhost:6565 unless opted out.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: v2.0.0
  • --address (alias: -a) (required): Address where the REST API server listens; required to enable the server in v2.0.0. `K6_ADDRESS` is the equivalent environment variable.
  • The server starts only when an address is explicitly provided via `--address` or `K6_ADDRESS`.
