railway api adds Railway GraphQL schema discovery and operation execution

Introduced 2026-07-22 · score 0.98

HOW TO USE IT

When exploring Railway’s public GraphQL API from the CLI, search and inspect the live schema, then run an authenticated operation with `railway api`.

railway api search <term> --limit <N>
railway api describe <name>
railway api 'query { me { id name } }'

WHY THIS HELPS

When exploring Railway's public GraphQL API from the CLI, discover its schema and execute an authenticated operation.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: v5.28.0
  • <term> (required): Search term for matching GraphQL types and fields.
  • --limit <N>: Maximum search results to print; defaults to 25.
  • <name> (required): GraphQL type, root field, or field in Parent.field notation to describe.
  • <QUERY> (required): GraphQL document to execute; may be passed inline, by file, or on stdin. Pass inline query or --file, not both.
  • --file <PATH>: Read the GraphQL document from a file; `-` reads stdin.
  • --variables <JSON|@PATH>: Provide a JSON variables object inline or from a file; `@-` reads stdin.
  • Prerequisite: CLI version 5.28 or later; authenticate with `railway login` or set a token.
  • Schema discovery uses live introspection fetched from the Railway API; nothing is bundled with the CLI.
  • Schema fetches fail with a clear error when the API returns a non-2xx status or GraphQL errors.
