railway ca adds flat agent lifecycle commands
Introduced 2026-08-09 · score 0.96
HOW TO USE IT
When you need to manage a Railway cloud agent from the CLI, use `railway ca list`, `create`, `ssh`, `wake`, `sleep`, or `delete` for the matching operation. Select agents by name or ID; `create` provisions a VM without connecting, and `ssh` never creates one.
railway ca list
railway ca list --jsonrailway ca create <agent-name> --project <project-id> --environment <environment-name>
railway ca ssh <agent-name> -- bashrailway ca wake <agent-name>
railway ca sleep <agent-name>
railway ca delete <agent-name>WHY THIS HELPS
From a repository directory, list, create, connect to, wake, sleep, or delete a cloud agent without relying on the interactive agent flow.
REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS
- Version: v5.35.0
- <agent-name> or <agent-id>: Select an existing agent for lifecycle commands. Omit to use the directory’s agent or the only agent, when unambiguous.
- --project <project-id>: Select the project for creation. Otherwise Railway uses the linked project or saved default.
- --environment <environment-name>: Select the environment for creation. Otherwise Railway uses the linked environment or saved default.
- --json: Output the agent list in JSON format.
- -- bash: Run a plain shell over SSH.
- --session <name>: Select a terminal session to attach to.
- --variable <key=value>: Set creation-time variables; repeatable and overrides matching environment-file entries.
- --env-file <path>: Load creation-time variables from a file; repeatable.
- --no-wait: Not found in the official documentation checked.
- --keep-awake: Current docs say this remains accepted for compatibility and is no longer needed; current behavior differs from the release note’s description.
- --all: Sleep every running agent you own; current docs also describe narrowing the scope with an environment filter.
- -y: Skip the delete confirmation; not documented on the current page checked.
- ls, new, connect, rm: Aliases named in the release note; not documented on the current page checked.
- Prerequisite: Enable Cloud Agents in Priority Boarding.
- Prerequisite: Install the Railway CLI and sign in with `railway login`.
- `ca list` can narrow with `-e`; `--all` includes teammates’ agents; `--json` is available for scripts.
- `ca create` creates an agent VM without connecting to it; it accepts `--variable`, `--env-file`, `--no-wait`, and `--json`.
- `ca ssh` attaches to an agent’s durable session; `-- bash` requests a plain shell, `--session` selects a session, and `--keep-awake` skips sleep-on-disconnect.
- `ca wake` waits for RUNNING.
- `ca sleep` stops compute billing while keeping the disk; `--all` targets every running agent you own.
- `ca delete` destroys the agent and its disk, with confirmation unless `-y` is used.
- Docs conflict: Current docs say `--keep-awake` is retained for compatibility and is no longer needed; the release note says it skips sleep-on-disconnect. Current docs may describe behavior newer than v5.35.0.
