HOW TO USE IT
When starting a repository coding session, save and select a ready bootstrap with `railway ca bootstrap`, or pass `--no-bootstrap` for a clean VM. Launch with `railway code` or `railway ca create` using the selected bootstrap option.
railway ca bootstrap save <name> --agent <agent-name> [--default]
railway ca bootstrap list
railway ca bootstrap default <name>railway code --codex --bootstrap <name>railway ca create <vm-name> --bootstrap <name>
railway code --codex --no-bootstrapWHY THIS HELPS
Start a repository coding session from a reusable cloud-agent environment or a clean VM.
REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS
- Version: v5.53.0
- <name> (required): Bootstrap name to save or select.
- --agent <agent-name> (required): Select the running VM to capture when saving.
- --default: Set this machine's local default after capture succeeds.
- --bootstrap <name>: Choose a named bootstrap for a new VM.
- --no-bootstrap: Skip the saved default bootstrap.
- --environment <environment>: Select another environment for bootstrap operations.
- --json: Request structured output from bootstrap list, save, or default.
- Option+N: Current docs say this opens a new-VM picker from an existing session.
- Prerequisite: Cloud Agents access is required.
- Prerequisite: Bootstraps capture running VMs; saving waits for capture to finish.
- Failed captures are hidden from the TUI bootstrap pickers.
- Ready bootstraps and captures still saving appear before **No Default**, with **Create New** last.
- Defaults change only after capture succeeds.
- The `--bootstrap` and `--no-bootstrap` launch choices do not change the stored default.
- Docs conflict: The release note says Option+N opens a new session on the same VM; current official docs say it opens the new-VM picker and creates a fresh VM. Version-specific behavior after v5.53.0 is not established by the current page.
