# Main screen: press n to open the new-VM picker.WHY THIS HELPS
When starting a Railway coding-agent session for repository work, launch a fresh VM with the intended project and environment, optionally selecting a bootstrap.
REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS
- Version: v5.57.2
- Cloud Agents access (required): Required to use the cloud-agent commands.
- n: Opens the new-VM picker from the `railway ca` main screen.
- Option+N: Opens the new-VM picker from an existing session; the picker starts with that VM's project and environment.
- p: Selects the project and environment for this VM; the saved default project appears first, and this choice does not change it.
- Use bootstrap: Toggle with arrow keys and Enter or click; when enabled, the Select Bootstrap row appears.
- b: Opens the bootstrap list from the Select Bootstrap row.
- Prerequisite: Cloud Agents access is required.
- Bare `railway code` opens `railway-agent-tui` on a new VM.
- Piped sessions and agent arguments after `--` use the terminal directly.
- The picker starts with the current VM's project and environment when opened from an existing VM, session, or focused terminal.
- Choosing a project applies to this VM and does not change the saved default project.
- Changing environments clears a named bootstrap selection.
