railway sandbox checkpoint commands create and boot saved checkpoints

Introduced 2026-06-11 · score 0.95

HOW TO USE IT

When you need to preserve a sandbox’s disk, run `railway sandbox checkpoint create <name>` to capture the active sandbox, or add `--id <ID>` to select one. Then run `railway sandbox create --checkpoint <name>` to boot a fresh sandbox from that checkpoint.

railway sandbox checkpoint create <name>
railway sandbox checkpoint create <name> --id <ID>
railway sandbox create --checkpoint <name>

WHY THIS HELPS

When working with a Railway sandbox, save its disk state and start a fresh sandbox from that saved state.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: v5.12.0
  • <name> (required): Checkpoint name; usable with `sandbox create --checkpoint`.
  • --id <ID>: Select source sandbox ID; defaults to the active sandbox.
  • --checkpoint <name>: Create from a named checkpoint; conflicts with `--template`.
  • Prerequisite: The CLI documents that the `PROJECT_SANDBOXES` feature must be enabled.
  • Checkpoint creation is synchronous and the checkpoint is ready when the command returns.
  • Reusing a checkpoint name replaces the previous checkpoint.
  • The checkpoint captures the active sandbox's disk; `--id` can be used to select a sandbox.
