railway sandbox offers to link the selected directory

Introduced 2026-06-05 · score 0.95

HOW TO USE IT

When `railway sandbox create` in an unlinked directory reaches the interactive project and environment picker, accept the link prompt to save that selection for later Railway commands. Choose No or press Esc to continue without linking.

railway sandbox create

WHY THIS HELPS

Run a `railway sandbox` command from an unlinked directory without `--project` or `--environment`, then reuse the selected project and environment in later commands.

BEFORE THIS CHANGE

The project and environment picker re-ran for each sandbox create, list, or template invocation in an unlinked directory.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: v5.4.2
  • --project: The release note says omitting this flag allows the sandbox command to reach the picker if there is no existing link; the sandbox command’s flag definition was not found in the official docs.
  • --environment: The release note says omitting this flag allows the sandbox command to reach the picker if there is no existing link; the sandbox command’s flag definition was not found in the official docs.
  • Link prompt (Yes/No/Esc): Yes saves the selected project and environment as the directory link; No or Esc continues without linking.
  • Prerequisite: Install the Railway CLI and authenticate with a Railway account; the sandbox quickstart says an existing project and environment are needed.
  • The offer appears when a `railway sandbox` command falls through to the interactive workspace → project → environment picker because there are no `--project` or `--environment` flags and no existing link.
  • Choosing No or pressing Esc continues the sandbox operation without linking.
