shopify app config link adds noninteractive file selection and overwrite flags

Introduced 2026-07-31 · score 0.98

HOW TO USE IT

When the destination filename can't be inferred, link the app with `--client-id` and `--file-name`. If that file already exists, add `--force` to overwrite it without prompting.

shopify app config link --client-id <client-id> --file-name <name>
shopify app config link --client-id <client-id> --file-name <name> --force

WHY THIS HELPS

Link an app configuration by client ID in automation when its filename is not inferable or the target file already exists.

BEFORE THIS CHANGE

The release note says `shopify app config link --client-id <id>` could prompt for a local filename when the target could not be inferred.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: 4.6.0
  • --client-id <value> (required): Client ID of the remote app to link; required if non-interactive.
  • --file-name <value>: Name of the configuration file to create or overwrite; requires `--force` to overwrite an existing file.
  • --force: Overwrite an existing configuration file without prompting.
  • `--force` overwrites an existing configuration file without prompting.
