HOW TO USE IT
When creating a billing portal session for customer detail updates, set `flow_data.type` to `customer_update` to link directly to the billing information page.
curl https://api.stripe.com/v1/billing_portal/sessions \
-u "<YOUR_SECRET_KEY>" \
-H "Stripe-Version: 2026-08-26.dahlia" \
-d customer=<CUSTOMER_ID> \
-d "flow_data[type]"=customer_updateWHY THIS HELPS
When implementing a billing portal flow that lets customers update their billing details, create a session that links directly to the billing information page.
REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS
- customer: ID of an existing customer; the request example uses it to identify the customer.
- flow_data: Information about a specific flow for the customer to go through.
- flow_data.type: Set to `customer_update` for a direct link to the billing information page. The release note documents `customer_update` alongside `payment_method_update`, `subscription_cancel`, and `subscription_update` as flow types.
- Prerequisite: Create a customer first; the session API reference lists `createCustomer` as a prerequisite.
