vercel deploy creates temporary anonymous projects for credential-free deployments

Introduced 2026-08-13 · score 0.96

HOW TO USE IT

When no Vercel credentials are configured and anonymous deployments are available, run `vercel deploy --yes` for non-interactive use; it builds locally if needed and deploys the output. Interactive use confirms the first temporary deployment; `--yes` skips that prompt.

vercel deploy --yes
vercel build vercel deploy --prebuilt --yes

WHY THIS HELPS

Deploy prebuilt output from a repository when no Vercel credentials are configured.

BEFORE THIS CHANGE

When anonymous deployments are unavailable, use the previous login behavior.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: 58.11.0
  • --yes: Skips prompts, answering with inferred or default values. The release note says to use it for non-interactive anonymous deployment until `.vercel/anonymous.json` records the temporary project.
  • --prebuilt: Deploys build output already generated in `.vercel/output`, typically by `vercel build`.
  • vercel build: Builds the project locally and produces `.vercel/output` for prebuilt deployment.
  • Prerequisite: Install the CLI with `pnpm i -g vercel`.
  • Prerequisite: For `--prebuilt`, the project must have build output in `.vercel/output`, typically generated with `vercel build`.
  • Requires no credentials for the anonymous deployment flow.
  • Anonymous deployment availability is conditional; when unavailable, the previous login behavior applies.
  • Interactive users confirm before the first deployment; `--yes` skips the prompt.
  • Non-interactive use requires `--yes` until `.vercel/anonymous.json` records the temporary project.
  • The anonymous credential is reused until it expires.
