wrangler deploy, versions deploy, and rollback support Durable Objects code update strategies

Introduced 2026-09-25 · score 0.97

HOW TO USE IT

When deploying or rolling back a Worker with Durable Objects, set the code update mode to control when their code updates. Use `--durable-objects-code-update-mode immediate` for immediate updates, or `deferred <delay>` to set the maximum delay; the Wrangler config field could not be verified in the official docs found.

npx wrangler versions deploy <VERSION-SPECS> --durable-objects-code-update-mode immediate
wrangler rollback [<VERSION_ID>] --durable-objects-code-update-mode deferred 30s
wrangler deploy --durable-objects-code-update-mode deferred 30s

WHY THIS HELPS

When deploying or rolling back a Worker with Durable Objects, configure when its code updates.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: 4.141.0
  • --durable-objects-code-update-mode: Selects Durable Object code update behavior; docs say `immediate` or `deferred` followed by a maximum delay, such as `deferred 30s`.
  • Prerequisite: Wrangler versions commands require Wrangler 3.40.0 or later; Wrangler 4.141.0 exceeds that minimum.
  • When unset, the strategy defaults to deferred with a 5-minute maximum delay.
  • Delays cannot exceed 24 hours and must use millisecond precision.
