wrangler dev supports local Cloudflare Stream bindings

Introduced 2026-03-27 · score 0.98

HOW TO USE IT

When developing or testing a Worker that uses Stream, bind Stream in Wrangler and run `npx wrangler dev`. Use the listed local operations; avoid direct uploads and `File`-based caption uploads or watermark generation, which throw locally.

Develop or test Worker code locally that uses Cloudflare Stream bindings.

REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

  • Version: 4.78.0
  • stream.binding (required): Binding name exposed to Worker code, for example `env.STREAM`.

  • Prerequisite: Add the Stream binding to the Worker’s Wrangler configuration.
  • Supported local operations: `upload()` (upload video via URL); `video(id).details()`, `.update()`, `.delete()`, `.generateToken()`; `videos.list()`; `captions.generate()`, `.list()`, `.delete()`; `downloads.generate()`, `.get()`, `.delete()`; and `watermarks.generate()`, `.list()`, `.get()`, `.delete()`.
  • `createDirectUpload()`, caption upload via `File`, and watermark generation via `File` are not supported in local mode and will throw.
  • Data persists across restarts by default. Set `streamPersist: false` in Miniflare options to disable persistence.
